Price/Performance optimized database clustering on Linux
Dr. Werner Butscher, Dolphin Interconnect Solutions Inc.
Dolphin's advanced software stack for its low
latency interconnect hardware takes advantage of
the Linux operating system and the open source
community. Recently the offering has been
extended with the SuperSockets library.
SuperSockets provides full compatibility with the
standard programming model for Ethernet, and can
be connected to any software system that runs on
Sockets by a single Linux "command". SuperSockets
virtually removes the overhead and latency delay
form the communication layer and opens for
drastic optimization of your clustered
application.
Dolphin and leading customers are testing the
effects SuperSockets will have on a variety of
applications. Special interest is with clustered
databases as MySQL Cluster (an open source based
solutions) and Oracle Grid and RAC. Communication
overhead and high latencies represent bottlenecks
in database systems and it can be removed with
the solution from Dolphin.
