The End User: Is it their time?
Jon "maddog" Hall, Executive Director, Linux International(R)
CeBIT has always been a show of the vendors. Vendors from all over
the world come to CeBIT to talk about computers and telecommunications. Yet
one or two days are set aside in the week as "school day" or "family day" to
allow the general public to see what the vendors have in store for them.
Free and Open Source Software is about community, about cooperation, and about
everyone contributing what they can. It is not communism, but cooperating.
It is about "standing on the shoulders of giants".
Linux International (www.li.org) which started in 1994 as a vendor
organization, is putting together a comprehensive list of programs for the end
user, whether the end user be a Value Added Reseller (VAR), an Independent
Software Vendor (ISV), an Internet Service Provider (ISP), a developer, or
(most importantly) your mother and father.
